Happy Bento B37 29/8/12

With the recent craze among friends who did angry bird cake pops for their kiddos' teachers as teachers' day gift, it dawn on me that I should try to do an angry bird bento.

1) For the triangle bird, it is bread triangles with four berries jam with cheese, corn kernels and nori.
2) For the red angry bird, I use rice crackers, cheese, imitation crab stick, nori and corn kernels.
3) For the golden pig, I used golden kiwi, nori and cheese.

Last but not least, papaya and multivitamins(in a little box in the middle). I was surprised and happy that I could actually do this angry bird bento!

I had sourced for a few ideas and will do them soon :)

Happy Bento B36 29/8/12

Today's inspiration after two days of rest, is from cookie monster. I love to see him gobble up his cookies haha!

With that idea, I can up with my sandwich monsters- one with blue eyes and one with yellow eyes. the sandwich is filled with fish finger, lettuce, cheese and chopped tomatoes.

Condiments include choco biscuit(under the corn kernels), corn kernels, homemade tartar sauce( under multivitamin box), multivitamins, precious jewels biscuit and hawthorns slices. :)

As the weather is quite cold these days due to frequent rains, hence I made some ginger tea for my hubbie.

Homemade ginger tea
1) slices of ginger
2) honey chrysanthemum rock sugar
3) a few drops of lime

Procedures
1) buy old ginger from wet market or supermarket. peel off the skin and wash thoroughly. crush the ginger a bit and slice it. (thickness based on personal preference).

2) fill a pot with water ( any amount that you like, I recommend 2litres ) and bring it to boil.

3) once boiled, add in the sliced ginger. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

4) after 10 minutes, place some honey chrysanthemum rock sugar into the tea. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes before you off the fire.

5) serve with a few drops of lime.

Home-made tartar sauce

Ingredients
1) mayonnaise
2) lemon juice
3) sugar or honey (optional)
4) mixed Italian herbs or any Fav choice of Italian herbs.

Procedure
1) scoop a tsp of mayonnaise into a bowl.
2) add in lemon juice, drop wise.( The level of sourness depends on individual .)
3) add in a small amount of Italian herbs.

Optional: you may add in a tiny drop of honey or a pinch of sugar into the mixture.

Happy Bento B29 21/8/12

You might have noticed that the amount of food in my bento box is getting bigger! Well, my hubbie, who is the bento recipient, says that he gets hungry by dinner time and at times, the company only order dinner around 8 plus or don even order! haiz, life of a worker! Hence the appearance of packets of biscuits, crackers and etc that will be appearing as part of my bentos regularly.

Today's bento was an inspiration from the fun and laughter of kids that went from house to house for their Hari Raya celebration the past two days.
The photo on the left shows the front of the sandwiches. The photo on the right shows the top view of the sandwiches and the condiments in the bento box.

- Cheeky kids: pita pouches filled with fish fingers and lettuce.

Today is a busy day for the mouse, elephants and bear! They are having a meeting to discuss about their party for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration!
But the elephants are scared of the mouse, that parked itself on the kiwi and apple rocks! Despite their enormous size, the elephants chose to squeeze and gather at the other side.
Haha what a timid creature the elephants are!!

Happy Bento B26 14/8/12

Today's idea came from a red riding hood teapot and cup set made in Korea. I noticed it in a boutique in A shopping centre and fell in love with it instantly!

Thus I used that idea and convert it into my bento. However, I realized that red riding hood can't be red riding hood today as I had run out of red kani :((( How sad can this be!! End up I had to use cheese and turn her to be yellow riding hood. :((

The story goes to say yellow riding hood ( wrap with orange marmalade) was on her way to visit her grandma when she passed by a forest! She stood around for a while to admire the flowers ( cherry tomatoes) and crystal birds (picks). Suddenly she noticed blinking eyes and saw a pack of wolves (sausages with cucumber and nori) staring at her! She was horrified.

To get the shape of Yellow riding hood, I used a heart shape cutter to cut out the shape and trim to fit the shape.

Alas, I woke up late, thus didn't have time to cook the sausages meant to do my pigs :(( End up, I did a ladybird one. Just as well since it is also in my to-do list. But I am not very happy as I do not have time to cut out the centre line of the body and eyes :(( What to do, time is running out.

In this box, the blueberry jam sandwiches are the hills, blue berries and cherries are the plants found along the trails. The lady bugs are made up of nori and cherry tomatoes. The dots are punched out from nori cutters.

Happy Bento B9

This bento is inspired by a picture I came across on the Net. I decided to give it a try to create the sausage fish and sotong and both turned out to be a success! The story theme is that fish playing tug of war and sotongs having soccer game.

Sausages:
1) For the fish sausage, slit a line two centimeters from one end of the sausage. (do not cut too deep into the sausage, not more than half the sausage depth) For the body, do cross cross slits. (same thing, do not cut too deep into the sausage) Finally, steam the sausage and the slits show up nicely!
2) for the sotongs, cut the sausage into half diagonally. At the end of the diagonal slit, use a paring knife to slit the tips to make its tentacles. Steam the sausage and let the tentacles curl!

The tug of war is made up of apple slices.

A big welcome

Hi! Welcome to my happy bento.I never knew about the fun in creating bentos until I started reading again during my period of suffering and recuperation from severe lower back pain. Throughout this whole period of time, I count my blessings to have a doting, caring and supportive hubby to look after me.( despite the fact that he has a crazy working schedule) Seeing how stressful his work can be, I decided to do something that can motivate and cheer him on :)

As I can only rest, I decided to do some reading, besides watching tv programs and dramas :) Happiness :)) It was this period that I chanced upon books which can fulfill my requirements to make happy bentos :)

The creations that I posted here are specially prepared to bring happiness and motivation to all, especially my hubby. Sit tight as you travel with me in this happy bento journey :)
